Qatar Superbike Championship Losail, 9/10 May 2014
Prinz narrowly misses the podium
Nina Prinz finished the fifth round of the Qatar Superbike Championship in fifth and fourth place.
Nina Prinz, aboard her HPC Power Suzuki equipped with a fresh engine, started convincingly in practice. But the 31-year-old unfortunately crashed early in qualifying. Nevertheless her best lap time gave the German third place on the grid and a good position for the two races.
When the first moto got underway Prinz soon realised something wasn´t quite right with her suspension. "The fork didn´t work flawlessly and was blocking too early when I was on the brakes," Prinz described the problem afterwards. "A damage that must have happened when I crashed earlier. I didn´t notice the problem during the warm-up. The wind was blowing so hard that I wasn´t going full-throttle." Slowed down by the handicap Prinz had to be content finishing the race in fifth position.
"Unfortunately the time between the races wasn´t sufficient to fully repair the fork," Prinz added in frustration, "I was forced to make the best out of the situation." The Suzuki pilot responded with a calm and collected race to finish fourth, giving her valuable points in the championship.
"There are four heats left," Prinz looked ahead after the race. "I want to post results strong enough to sit top three by the end of the season."
The remaining events of the Qatar Superbike Championship will be held on 23/24 May and 6/7 June.
