EUROPEAN WOMENS CUP - Assen (NL) - 15. Juli 2007 (Kopie 1)

A „splitted race’’ !

Unfortunately this weekend we could only ‚check’ the circuit on Saturday. A possible training on Friday had not been allowed due to non equal competition (UEM rule) , as there was not enough space for all the girls to practice on friday.

Saturday was the first time for me to tests my Ducati 1098 on the TT Assen circuit.

We had one free practice and 2 qualifying rounds of 20 minutes each.

I had to end the second qualifying 8 minutes before the end, due to a broken  exhaust. But the times set untill then where satisfying.

With 1.45.8 - I was 1,6 sec. faster as Cazzola on her Yamaha, and had pole position for Sunday.

Sunday during the warm-up I tried a new set-up but decided that the set-up of the day before, would be better. So for the race we did go back to the settings of Saturday.

The weather conditions were unstable with regards to rain. Just after lunch, only ten minutes before the race,  we had some drops of rain coming down.

Unfortunately I did not make the perfec start (as I had dreamed of) and my pole position was gone.

I was on  third place with Cazzola and Polita in front of me. But their lead was only for a short time because I  was able to overtake on the start-finish for me to go into the first corner on the second lap!

It took 7 rounds form me to lead with a gap of 9 seconds. Then it started to rain and the race was stopped. After a back and forth, where we had to decide which tyres to use in the second race, we decided to stick with the tyres we had as the track quickly started to dry up. We also consulted some Assen experts, which helped us a lot.

The second race was started as a Wet Race. In the beginnning, during Grit time, it  looked like we had made the wrong choice. But when it was 3 minutes before the start, the sun came back again and it stop raining.

We started the race with 5 laps to go and I had 9 sec. lead from the first race. So time for me to inspect the track for 2 rounds, riding behind Cazzola and Polita, not taking any risks untill I was sure the track was dry. AS soon as I was certain the rack was okay and there where no wet spots, I overtook the two in front of me and ended the race with another 3 sec. lead!

☺LETs GO TO OSCHERSLEBEN!

Hope to see you all there – the last European Womens Cup race for 2007
