Prinz shines with double podium score

Qatar Superbike Championship Losail, 21/22 November 2013

Nina Prinz first clinches pole position in qualifying and then goes on to finish both races of the Qatar Superbike Championship in third place.

The second round of the Qatar Superbike Championship held at the Losail International Circuit started with a major coup. Nina Prinz set the fastest lap in qualifying against all her rivals - including former GP rider Anthony West - and secured the pole position with a time of 2:03.605 minutes. "I surprised myself a little by being the quickest," the German said. "I felt good and rode in a relaxed manner, that was the key to success."

Despite starting the race from first place on the grid, Prinz didn´t enjoy the best launch into race one, completing the opening lap in fifth place. "The first lap was really bad," she said. "But I managed to work my way up rather quickly into third place. Then the red flag came out because of liquids on the tarmac." The 31-year-old went back into the action at the re-start from fourth place. Again she was able to snatch up third very soon. Prinz went on and attacked Alex Cudlin. "In the final two laps I was very close to Alex," Prinz commented. "I managed to pass him in the final lap, but he was quicker on the straight. At this point in the championship I don´t want to take any unnecessary risk. So I decided that third place is okay."

The second race went similar to the first, just without the red flag. Prinz battled two domestic riders during the first half of the race, before constantly turning quicker laps and comfortably establishing another third place.

"It was a good weekend," the happy Suzuki rider summed up her successful outing. "It´s hard to believe I took pole with last year´s bike, For the next round in February I will have my new Suzuki GSX-R 1000 from Hertrampf-Racing. I can´t wait to put it on the track and see the results."

The new race weapon of the German will be shipped to Qatar with the support of the Qatar Motorsport Federation ( It will be available to Prinz at the remaining rounds of the Qatar Superbike Championship.
